| A set of eight (2 arms and 6 sides) American painted rush seated chairs, circa 1830 to 1840. All these chairs are in their excellent conditioned original paint and finish, with all the normal wear in the correct places. The chairs are finished in a reddish brown grained finish with gold stenciled designs on the seat rails, crest rails, stiles, and splats. The designs on the splats are "Double cornucopias of fruit surrounded by leaves" The seats are in 2nd generation rush, which is also in excellent condition. The back of each chair is marked with the name of "Ruth Hicks" who was most likely the artist of decorated these chairs. Arms are 21" wide by 36" high, with seats of 18" wide by 16" deep by 18 ½" high. Side chairs are 17 ½" wide by 15" deep by 36" high. Price for set is $4,800.00
